If you live in Australia try doing the following:
- Open up a “Command Prompt” Window on your computer.
- EITHER
Go to Start Menu – Programs – Accessories – Command Prompt
OR
Start – Run – and type cmd , then press “Enter”. - A little window will pop up, and at the cursor (prompt) type the following tracert www.redrook.com.au and then press “Enter”.
It will take a few minutes , but you will see a few hops from your computer to the www.redrook.com.au website. Make a note of the response times. If you have an ADSL connection to the Internet each hop may be as quick as 48 ms (48 milliseconds).
If you now do a tracert to your site or a known site hosted in the USA you will see that the response times are FAR higher, and the number of hops FAR greater.
If the tracert to your website shows hops of 100 ms or higher then you are almost certainly hosted OUTSIDE of Australia. Most likely you are hosted on a server in the USA.
