Data Transfer (Traffic)
Data transferred TO (INBOUND) and FROM (OUTBOUND) the servers is due to many reasons. The most common activities to generate traffic are; visiting (downloading) a web page, sending an email, uploading a website (using FTP).
Red Rook does not charge for OUTBOUND data transfer from any of our Australian based servers. We do NOT set limits on the amount of data that can be downloaded from your website, unlike many major web hosting companies operating in and outside Australia.
For most shared web hosting plans Red Rook also absorbs the INBOUND data transfer for you! In other words your dedicated server in Australia, traffic is only billed for INBOUND data transfer to the datacentre where the servers are located.
Don't be fooled by other Australian web hosting companies that limit your traffic to or from your website. There are many "Australian based" web hosting businesses that actually have their web servers in the USA. This is a major reason why they limit their clients hosted domains to a TOTAL data transfer per month. Red Rook's web servers are all based in a major Australian, Sydney data centre.
A major disadvantage of being hosted in the USA is the time to download web pages on servers in the USA can take upto 5 times longer than from an Australian server, due to the distances involved.
