2. Pay online with order fulfillment taking place after transaction processing.

This method allows you to process the customer's credit card details before fulfilling their order. Usually this works best if you have a product/service that requires physical delivery and has a realtively low purchase price e.g. books, CD's, souvenirs, web page design, etc. The customer selects the products/services they wish to purchase and then proceeds to supply their credit card details for the total sales amount via a secure server. You then periodically check the secure server (by entering a username and password) and process the credit card details via your own EFTPOS machine. What you'll need:
  • A website with a secure order form.
  • An online shopping cart (optional)
  • A credit card merchant account (which usually includes an EFTPOS machine) through your bank with a mail order/telephone order (MOTO) facility. There are alternative means of payment briefly outlined here.
  • A means of delivering the product or service.
Advantages:
  • Relatively cheap to set up.
  • Simple to operate.
  • Less likelihood of technical difficulties than "real time" transactions.
Disadvantages:
  • Requires a specialised secure server
  • Needs access to a bank merchant account with a MOTO facility.
  • Not all customers are comfortable paying using credit card.
  • The risk of credit card fraud.
