Get Your Own Domain Name
Why have your own domain name?
- Your own domain name portrays a professional image.
- No need to change your email address or web site address every time you change your ISP.
- Register initially for at least 2 years. There are indications that domain names registered for more than one year are more "Google-friendly" than those registered for only one year.
What makes a good domain name?
- Make it easy to spell and so it spells the same way as it sounds e.g. redrook.com would be better than reddrook.com
- Avoid non-alphanumeric characters...and probably avoid numerals altogether.
- Always apply the "keep it simple" principle.
- If you have the Australian market in mind, registering a .au domain name may have some impact on your search engine listing when Australian visitors search using an Australian mirrored search engine site.
- You can check domain name availability here.
How much does it cost?
- Red Rook offers competitive prices on most domain name types. Whether it's a .com, a .com.au, or a .net, we can help you find the domain name what you're looking for and get it registered within hours. Click here for our current domain name registration prices.
- You will need to apply for/register a domain name or get authority to use a sub-domain of another domain name. Domain name pricing will vary between suppliers, but Red Rook's competitive pricing can be found here. If you wish to register a .au domain the registering authority (Registrar) may require proof of existing use of a similar name by the business e.g. an ABN or ACN, or product line etc.
How do I purchase a domain name?
When you find a domain name that is available, you can purchase it in one of two ways:
- When placing your order for web hosting, select the option for Red Rook to register the domain name on your behalf.
- Complete the sales information online form, requesting the registration of the domain name.
